การออกแบบห้องพักและวิลล่าได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจากสีสันของท้องฟ้าเหนือทะเลอันดามันในช่วงเวลาต่าง ๆ ของวัน ห้องพักแต่ละประเภทเลือกใช้โทนสีส้ม ฟ้า หรือม่วง ซึ่งเปลี่ยนไปตามแสงธรรมชาติและช่วยสร้างบรรยากาศที่สงบ คานไม้ขัดแต่งด้วยมือ พื้นผิวหินที่เผยลวดลายตามธรรมชาติ และแผงหวายสานซึ่งช่วยกรองแสง ล้วนสะท้อนรายละเอียดที่พบได้ตามแนวชายฝั่ง โดยนำมาตีความใหม่อย่างเรียบง่ายและร่วมสมัย

a Design Story Rooted in Southern Thai Soul
Phuket, Thailand: The first property to embody Chatrium Hotels & Resorts’ new brand identity, the upcoming Chatrium Phuket Rawai is a 304-key beachfront resort on Phuket’s serene southern coast. Rising beside Rawai Pier, once the heart of a traditional fisherman village, the property blends contemporary design with the maritime heritage of the Chao Lay community, offering guests a sanctuary of calm, culture and connection.
Created by global design firm dwp in collaboration with Foreign Policy Design Group, the resort unfolds as a series of sensorial chapters. Natural materials, refined craftsmanship and cultural storytelling shape spaces that mirror the rhythm of coastal life. Through raw, honest materials elevated by refined craftsmanship, the resort allows Phuket’s landscape and culture to resonate deeply with guests seeking calm, connection and a more natural way of being.
The resort’s setting beside Rawai Pier is steeped in history. Once a bustling fisherman village, the pier was the gateway to the Andaman Sea, where generations of Chao Lay families launched their boats, traded their catch and built a way of life around the tides. Today, Chatrium Phuket Rawai honours this heritage by weaving maritime motifs and coastal craftsmanship into its design, while offering guests direct access to the pier’s vibrant local culture and seafood traditions.
A submerged prelude: the lobby
Arrival at Chatrium Phuket feels like descending into a tranquil reef. Guests are welcomed by the sound of a cascading water feature, the scent of tropical blooms and the warmth of Thai hospitality expressed through natural textures such as rattan screens and lush greenery that softens the architectural lines. The intentionality of design choices and layout helps to create a soft landing, offering guests three quiet minutes to breathe and settle into the experience.
The lobby is sculpted with undulating timber forms, coral-inspired silhouettes and soft aquatic hues, evoking the hush of the ocean floor. Light filters through sculptural wooden fins like sunbeams refracted underwater, while stone flooring in mottled marine tones mimics the seabed’s natural patina. At the heart of this space stands The Art of Sustainability, a series of hand-woven tapestries created from recycled materials in partnership with Beyond Living x Mook V. Suspended like drifting sea flora, the installation embodies the resort’s ethos: beauty shaped by responsibility.
A village reimagined: the retreat
The accommodation tells the story of the Andaman sky across a single day. Each room category is expressed through its own palette of orange, blue or purple hues, colours that shift with the light and subtly shape the guest’s sense of calm and place. The material palette leans into natural textures: timber beams softened with hand-rubbed finishes, stone surfaces revealing natural veining reminiscent of tidal rock formations, rattan panels woven with precision to filter light like shifting currents.
In every room, traditional Toei Panan weaving developed with local studio Sarnsard introduces geometric patterns that echo the baskets and mats found in coastal homes, humble materials elevated through meticulous detailing and modern clarity.
The bounty of the tides: dining
The resort’s all-day dining venue, AUJAAN, takes its cues from the Southern Thai “pinto”, a traditional tiered lunchbox packed with comfort, memory and shared stories. Its interiors echo this sense of layered discovery: rattan drapes across the ceiling like the woven lids of old-world carriers; wood panels carved with wave-like patterns nod to the coastal journeys these lunchboxes once travelled; antique bronze stainless steel adds a warm, time-worn sheen; and rope details paired with soft fabric upholstery subtly reference the hands and tools of the communities who carried them.
LAMOON restaurant takes its name from the Southern Thai word for smooth, delicate and mellow, translating directly into design. Curved timber ribs rise overhead in soft, sculptural arcs, a gentle echo of the traditional bubu fish traps once used by the Chao Lay. Natural textures, warm woods and maritime detailing ground the refined restaurant in its seaside heritage.
Spaces of play and connection
KALUI, the resort’s Kids’ Club, brings playful coastal storytelling to life in a mini-village designed in soft, rounded forms: manta-ray silhouettes glide across the ceiling in sculptural sweeps; an ocean-blue palette washes the room in calm, tidal light; and a kids-only bar forms the social heart of the play area, encouraging gathering and flow.
At Nemita Spa & Wellness, design becomes the first act of restoration: natural stone grounds the space in Phuket’s earthy energy, layered textiles cocoon the body and diffused lighting guides guests into relaxation. Every surface, scent and tactile detail is curated to down-regulate the nervous system, creating an environment where the architecture itself initiates the shift from daily noise to deep, sensory recalibration.
Finally, the resort’s meeting and event space, The Sail, takes inspiration from the elegant silhouettes of Chao Lay boats, with sweeping timber arcs, nautical detailing and open, breathable volumes that invite natural light and sea breezes into gatherings of up to 250 people.
